Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski were beaten Robert Farah along with by seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal at the men’s doubles’ semi-finals at the US Open.
The British duo lost two tie-breaks at a 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (10-8) defeat on the Colombians, who won the Wimbledon title before this season.
“It was a near game, no breaks of serve, not a lot of break points either,” said Murray. “I guess we just didn’t produce enough good returns at the ideal time and ended up losingweight.
“It is irritating to be that close to the final, losing by such a close margin, but it has been a good tournament.
“We played some good tennis, five great games, so it works nicely for us moving forward.”
As he has got the doubles murray’s tournament is not over, though.
The defending champions face Michael Venus and seeds Chan Hao-ching on Saturday.
In the men’s wheelchair doubles’ semi-final, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett beat duo Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer 6-0 6-3.
The set will confront Japan’s Shingo Kunieda at the closing along with Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina.
